Today is April 22, 2021. For many people, this does not immediately ring a bell, yet today is a special day! It is National Earth Day. This annual event is dedicated to - as the name suggests - the earth and our influence on it. In addition, on this day attention is drawn in a positive way to the global problems surrounding the environment, nature and climate change. But how can we, Natural Yachts and as water sports enthusiasts make a positive contribution to this?
Daily life
Until recently, I, Anna - intern at Natural Yachts - was not aware of the existence of this day. At home we have always been told to pay attention to the little things in our daily lives that have an impact on the environment. But despite these 'standard' daily choices, I still think, on a day as today, it's very important to give some extra thought into the things we do or can still improve. Because just like our climate, our environment is also changing and there are constantly new developments and trends in the field of sustainability.
Electric vehicles
One of the trends that we can hardly ignore these days is the rise of electric vehicles. Bicycles, cars, boats and even buses and streetcars, we move around more and more electrically these days. Today there are over 150,000 electric cars driving around the Netherlands, and this number is twice as much as just one year ago. Of course, this trend is not without reason: it is quiet, innovative and clean. Unlike vehicles that use fossil fuels, electric vehicles produce no CO2 emissions, which is positive for the climate!
CO2 reduction
The gas CO2 is one of the main causes of climate change. And the fact is that these CO2 emissions are becoming an increasingly discussed problem in the Netherlands. To preserve the planet for future generations, carbon dioxide emissions must therefore be drastically reduced in the coming years. By 2030, CO2 emissions in the Netherlands must be reduced by half, and by 2050 by as much as 95%. For many sectors, this means a major challenge.
Emission-free boating
Natural Yachts was created with a passion for water sports. By offering electric (sailing) boats, also for charter, our goal is to make water sports greener, more sustainable and to give an impulse to the energy transition. Our three electric charter yachts alone achieve a CO2 reduction of almost 30 tons of CO2 per year. Generally speaking this corresponds to approximately 250,000 car kilometers at 120.5 grams of CO2 per kilometer (average emissions European car fleet). Read more about this in our blog "Electric boating, how much CO2 reduction can you achieve?".
Sustainability, comfort and luxury
Besides the fact that electric boating delivers a large CO2 reduction, sustainability also goes hand in hand with comfort and luxury. The yachts of Natural Yachts are fully equipped and a four-person motorboat is already available for charter from €1010,- per week. Even you, as a water sports enthusiast, can contribute to the reduction of CO2 in the Netherlands with small daily choices. Grab your bike more often, separate your waste or go electric! Only together we can make our planet a little cleaner.
Therefore, be nice to the earth and not only today... Make Everyday Earth Day.
